Welcome to Duckworth Real Estate
Duckworth Real Estate officially opened in 1999 to meet the growing need for professional real estate representation on Nova Scotia's South Shore. Specializing in oceanfront and ocean view homes and undeveloped land, we have not only represented buyers and sellers from across Canada, but also from across the U.S., the Caribbean, Europe, the South Pacific and Asia.
The Duckworth Real Estate office is located in a restored 18th century English barn in the historic seaside village of Kingsburg. The barn is an interesting piece of traditional Lunenburg County architecture demonstrating how to breathe life in these older historic buildings.
The professional staff is made up of John Duckworth, Anne Fouillard, Piers Baker and Vanessa Pook. All three are members of the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) (http://www.crea.ca)—which owns and operates the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) http://www.mls.ca and has proprietary ownership of the REALTOR trademark. As well, all are members of the Nova Scotia Association of Realtors (NSAR) http://www.nsar.ns.ca/public/aboutnsar/index.html. Our offerings are found all over the South Shore with greater concentration on Kingsburg and Chester, Nova Scotia.
John Duckworth - Broker/Co-Owner and Realtor
John graduated in Civil Engineering from McGill University. He has lived in Kingsburg for over 20 years and has owned property here for more than 40 years. John brings a lifetime of experience in real estate brokerage, land development, construction and vacation rentals. His connection to the community as well as his deep local knowledge of the area, have been key to his long list of highly satisfied buyers and sellers.
John has worked as a developer, builder, development consultant and project manager on residential, commercial, industrial and institutional projects in Atlantic Canada, Ontario, Quebec, New Hampshire, Maine, Africa and the Philippines.
In 1972, John purchased a derelict c.1840, one-room schoolhouse, fronting on beautiful Kingsburg Beach. He converted the schoolhouse to its present use as an historic, year round, completely self-contained and fully equipped, oceanfront dwelling. John and Anne are still the proud owners of this unique property. Schoolhouse by the Sea is now rented out to visitors to the area.
Born in Montreal and brought up in Halifax, John has traveled in Europe, Africa, Asia, Mexico and the Caribbean, as well as throughout the United States. He is a Director of the Sherman Hines Museum of Photography and the Rossignol Cultural Centre in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, past-President of the Nova Scotia Snowboarding Association, and past-President of the Riverport and District Board of Trade.
Piers Baker - Realtor
Since 1967, Piers has been coming to the utopian seaside village of Chester for the summer. In 2012, he made a lifestyle choice and transplanted his wife and two kids from the urban chaos of Toronto to Chester - a eureka moment for Piers! In his own words “Since we moved, life just keeps getting better and better!”
From 1988 until his move to Nova Scotia, Piers managed Third From the Sun Ltd., Canada’s largest and most elite DJ company based in Toronto. He has worked celebrity parties for the likes of Conan O’Brian, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Brad Pitt and Elton John, just to name a few. He’s been on stage with many artists including Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire and Kool and the Gang. Past heavyweight clients include all of Canada’s major banks and pharmaceuticals, the Toronto International Film Festival, CTV, Global, Alliance Atlantis and CBC. If the Eaton’s, Rogers, or Weston families are having a party, Piers was usually the DJ.
Since his move to the east coast, as the owner and manager of several commercial properties in Chester, Piers has his hands on the pulse of what’s happening around town. As well, Piers owns and manages the Chester Kayak Shack in the summers, and DJ’s the occasional high-end event in Halifax. Piers’ fondness of Halifax dates back to his years at Dalhousie University where he began the DJ business and worked for Warner film.
From a community perspective, Piers is the Director of Economic Development for the Chester Chamber of Commerce, and on the Board of the Village of Chester Tourism and Development Association (VOCTADA). Piers has become an active supporter of the Chester community through the management and ownership of several commercial properties in the village, as well as the Kayak Shack which operates during the summer months. Piers always has a direct link to all Chester local happenings.
Piers has become known for his honesty and direct approach in the real estate business. His approach is that “I want to find dream homes for my buyers and get the best value for my sellers’ homes.”
Piers describes himself as a seasoned corporate marketing and business development professional. He expresses it best - “I know the communities across the South Shore, and when you work with me, the full extent of my experience and connections will be made available to you. My business relationships are founded on the sound principal of dedicating my full attention to each of my clients unique needs.”
Anne Fouillard - Associate Managing Broker/Co-Owner and Realtor

She has lived and worked in four languages throughout Canada, Asia, South America, Africa, the South Pacific and the Caribbean. She is a certified real estate broker and salesperson as well as a first class residential space planner and decorator. Anne has also taken the course for the Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR) through the Real Estate Buyer's Agent Council. Anne speaks English, French, Spanish and Bahasa Indonesian and clients who require French or Spanish will be pleased to know that they can have services in those languages. She has helped with the business over the years.
John and Anne are both charter directors of the Kingsburg Coastal Conservancy http://www.kingsburgconservancy.org/, an organization dedicated to the preservation of headlands, beaches, and wetlands on the Kingsburg Peninsula where Duckworth Real Estate is located.
